INDIANA PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM Children must be at least five years of age by July 1 of the enrollment year in order to register for kindergarten. Some school districts offer early registration of students who do not meet the age requirement; check with your local district for further information. A legally certified birth certificate, official immunization records, proof of residency, the child's social security number (custody or guardianship papers if applicable) are all required for registration. Transferring students should bring records from the previous school or a registrar contact. New students receive a grace period of 30 days to comply with immunization requirements, although newcomers are urged to register prior to the opening of school.
